Brake Fluid
In automobiles, brake fluids are the specially formulated fluids used in hydraulic braking systems to transfer the applied force of pressure from your foot against the brake pedal, through hydraulic lines, to the breaking mechanism near the wheels of the vehicle. These fluids fall into three different classifications with the Department of Transportation, or DOT, based on their chemical composition and boiling point. DOT 3 is most commonly used in automobiles today.
